Bobbing Forest moved!
Floriade 2022 has come to an end. Of the nearly 700,000 visitors, most will have encountered Mothership’s beautiful Floating Forest. And how great it looked! But all good things come to an end, and like the rest of Floriade, the forest had to make way.
Mothership made sure that the beautiful concept did not become invisible, and agreed on a new location with the municipality of Almere: the Weerwater. There the Floating Forest will be bobbing for the next five years, right behind the Flevo Hospital, next to Strand22, the summer pavilion on the Esplanade. The move took some doing, but now that it is there, it is as if it has always been there: home.
Here, too, the forest calls attention to climate change and the relationship between man and nature in big cities in a circular and sustainable way. The trees live in recycled sea buoys from the Department of Public Works and have been tested for their ability to take root in a limited space and withstand the waves of water. As sea levels rise, will this become a necessary evil, like building on water?
