De Zaag is an island and nature reserve near Krimpen aan de Lek. De Zaag is named after the sawmill that used to stand on the island. In order to improve the quality of the nature, the Zuid-Hollands Landschap has given the island a thorough facelift. This was done in cooperation with Rijkswaterstaat, the province and the municipality.
There is a special viewing point in the area: the 14-metre-high Beverbrug (Beaverbridge), designed by Ruud Reutelingsperger of the artists’ collective Observatorium. The Beverbrug , a construction of steel tubes, was inspired by a beaver lodge. From the bridge, you have a panoramic view over De Zaag, Rotterdam, the port and the river.
