The artwork “ROTTE-DAM” is based on the city’s “roots”. It was conceived in 2010 by two (now former) students at the Willem de Kooning Academy, Hogeschool Rotterdam. At that time graphic designers Robbert de Groot and Cees Boot won a prize with their proposal for the project at the Wijnhaven Tunnel in Rotterdam. The word ROTTE-DAM is cut out in root-shaped letters from a Corten steel wall which is illuminated at night by LED lighting. The dam on the Rotte was built and Rotterdam first arose at this magical place where the Wijnhaven Tunnel lies today.
Commissioned by the District Council of Central Rotterdam, graphic designers Robbert de Groot and Cees Boot designed the artwork “ROTTE-DAM”. Mothership acted as the producer.
